The little girl depicted is my twelve-year old self, looking out to the horizon, waiting for the sun to descend and create crimson hues in the skies. Witnessing nature's magnificence gave me instant relief from the arduous seven and a half-kilometer hike. Overlooking my town from a hilly area on which I was perched, gave me a sense of home.
Two years ago, as soon as I completed my manuscript for In The Typhoon's Eye, my childhood memoir, I realized that it had been thirty years I hadn't held my brushes. Yet because I needed a meaningful image to represent my story, I found myself compelled to draw the cover of my new book. This image has stayed with me my whole life.
